The Manning Bowl

Posted on by

This is going to be a very special Sunday.

We’re in Week 2 of the NFL season and there are plenty of reasons to be excited for this week’s games, but one game has garnered a lot of special attention and anticipation, and for good reason. The game I’m referring too is comparable to a solar eclipse; it doesn’t happen very often and I when it does it’s hard to not stare directly at it. I’m talking about The Manning Bowl. That’s right, Peyton and Eli are going head to head on Sunday afternoon. The Manning brothers, have three Super Bowl rings between them, have only played each other twice. The first time they played, Peyton won. The second time they played, Peyton won again. Older brothers usually win in my experience, but the younger ones usually don’t get blamed for half the stuff they do (I’d know…I’m a younger brother.)

The important part of this game is that it may never happen again. Let’s face it, Peyton is in the twilight of his career and I don’t see him playing another four years. Aside from the fact that this game may never happen again, both quarterbacks had very impressive stats last week. Peyton tore up the defending Super Bowl champs with seven touchdown passes. That’s two TDs to his brand new toy Wes Welker, two to tight end Julius Thomas, two to Demaryius Thomas, and one touchdown to Andre Caldwell. That performance tied an NFL record for touchdown passes in one game that has been around since 1969. Little brother Eli also threw for four touchdowns but was bogged down by three interceptions, not to mention the Giants as a whole had a major case of fumbleitis.

This game will surely be a shoot out, making it very interesting for PrePlayers. I’ll be guessing a lot of successful scoring drives come Sunday. If history repeats itself, Peyton will emerge the victor, but don’t count Eli out just yet. After all, it is Eli who trumps Peyton in Super Bowl rings.

Get psyched for the game everyone, this is bound to be a game we’ll be talking about all season, and if not, at least we have this video to remember and laugh about.
